Interactive Guide

A well-designed entryway should allow for smooth movement with at least 36 inches of clearance. Consider:

  • Door swing radius (typically equal to door width)
  • Furniture placement that doesn't obstruct pathways
  • Turning radius for wheelchairs (60 inches diameter recommended)

Different door types require different clearances:

  • Swing doors: Need full radius clearance when opening
  • Sliding doors: Minimal clearance but require wall space
  • Bi-fold doors: Moderate clearance, good for closets
  • Double doors: Require more width but can provide wider access
